Addressing the Jail Situation

I'd like to take a moment to share my genuine appreciation for the incredible men and women who dedicate themselves to working in the jail every single day. Their roles are immensely challenging, as they strive to maintain order and ensure safety while also offering essential support to those navigating some of the toughest moments in their lives.

From overseeing daily routines to skillfully managing crises, these individuals showcase extraordinary resilience and compassion in everything they do. It's truly unfortunate that their hard work often goes unacknowledged, but I want to assure them that their dedication and kindness do not go unnoticed.

I understand that our jail staff are currently confronting significant challenges due to staffing shortages. This situation not only increases their stress levels but also affects the safety and rehabilitation of the individuals in their care.

As your sheriff, I am wholeheartedly committed to addressing this challenge. I will prioritize our initiatives to recruit, retain, and support more officers, ensuring that those serving in our jail have the necessary resources and backup to excel in their vital roles. By enhancing our staffing situation, we can not only improve the safety of our jail environment but also create a more supportive atmosphere for both staff and inmates, ultimately uplifting the well-being of our entire community. Together, we can make a positive difference.

A Career of Service

As a retired police chief with over 30 years in law enforcement, I fulfilled my childhood dream of serving the community— a path I embraced after initially considering a career in teaching. I find great fulfillment in meeting and helping others, aiming to be someone who never meets a stranger.

Looking Ahead

After graduating from Stoneville High School in 1983, I completed Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at GTCC in Greensboro from October 1984 to May 1985. With a deep commitment to service, I aspire to be your next Sheriff of Rockingham County.
